Except 与except for的区别

我们经常用介词except和except for来表示不包含或排除，它们都跟在名词或名词短语的后面，用except 与except for都是正确的。

既可以用except也可以用except for:

I like all fruit except (for) oranges. (排除橙子)

除了橙子，我喜欢所有水果。

Except for Louisa, who’s away in Berlin this weekend, we’ll all be at the party.

除了路易萨这个周末去柏林，我们都会参加晚会。

She likes going to most sports events, except cricket matches.

她喜欢大多数的体育比赛，除了板球。

Everybody came to the party, except / except for Serena.

除了塞丽娜，大家都参加了聚会。

He ate everything on the plate, except / except for the peas.

除了豌豆，他吃光了盘中的所有食物。

I have no free time in my schedule, except / except for two hours on Friday afternoon.

除了周五有两个小时，我的日程没有自由时间。

Except还可以用作连词来引导从句：

这时候用except表示从句的陈述与主句的不同。

The brothers are very alike, except (that) Mark is slightly taller than Kevin.5

两个兄弟长得非常像，只是马克比凯文稍高一些。

New York is a great place to live, except that it is cold in the winter.

除了冬天有点冷，纽约是个不错的生活地方。

Except 和except 在用法上与apart 和 apart from相类似：

Apart from 和 except都是两个介词短语。 Apart from 可以指包括也可以排除：

Apart from Germany, they also visited Italy and Austria. (包括 Germany)

他们去了德国，还去了意大利和奥地利。

I like all vegetables apart from tomatoes. (排除 tomatoes)

我喜欢除西红柿以外所有的蔬菜。

Apart from Friday, I’ll be in London. (不包括Friday)

除了星期五， 我都在伦敦。

Except for 或 except 只有不包含或排除的意思：

I like all vegetables except for tomatoes. (不包含 tomatoes)

Except for Jim, who is unwell, they are all ready to leave for America tomorrow.

除了吉姆身体不舒服没有走，他们都准备好了明天动身去美国。

She enjoys all sports except swimming.

除了游泳，她喜欢所有的运动。

只有用Except for(不能用except)

• My vacation in Paris was great, except for the rain. （实际上雨让我的假期不那么好）
• I finished cleaning the whole house, except for the bathroom. （实际上我没有清洗浴室，我没有完成整个房子的打扫）
• We drank all the liquor at the party, except for one bottle of champagne. （我们实际上没有喝光酒，因为还剩下了一瓶香槟）

仅用except (但不能用 except for)的情况

1. except + 动词不定式：

I never go to the mall, except to shop for Christmas presents.

我从来不去商场，除了买圣诞礼物。

Steve rarely goes to Manhattan, except to see his doctor.

斯蒂夫很少去曼哈顿，除了去看病。

1. except + 动词原形:

Happy does nothing all day except sleep and eat.

海培除了吃和睡，整天无所事事。

These days I don’t do anything except work in the office.

这些天来除了在办公室上班我没有做其它的事。

1. except + 介词:

• There are no good Thai restaurants except in Manhattan.

除了曼哈顿以外别的地方没有好的泰国餐厅。

• You can’t buy those spices anywhere except at an Indian grocery store.

除了印度的杂货店，别的地方你买不到那些香料。
